Area athletes participate in Hershey’s Track & Field Games

Posted

Approximately 132 area athletes, both boys and girls ranging in age from 9 to 14 years, competed on June 1 at Battle Ground’s District Stadium in the Hershey’s Track & Field Games.

The top three finishers in each event advance to the state meet on June 29-30 at Mount Tahoma High School Stadium in Tacoma. State meet winners do not automatically advance to the North American Final. They are entered into a regional pool and become eligible for selection to a regional team that will travel to Hershey, PA to compete in the 2013 North American Final, held in August.

The Hershey’s Track & Field Games has involved millions of youngsters from all 50 states, the District of Columbia and the 10 provinces and three territories of Canada. It is solely sponsored by The Hershey Company and partnered with the National Recreation and Park Association, Athletics Canada and National Association for Sport and Physical Education.

Hershey’s Track & Field Games are events designed to encourage physical fitness among youth and emphasize participation and sportsmanship.

The Southwest Washington Local/District Hershey’s Track and Field Meet was hosted by One Team and Battle Ground Public Schools Community Education Department.
