Hockinson’s Racanelli to play for Central

It looks Canon Racanelli will be a Central Washington University Wildcat next fall.

As quarterback for Hockinson, Racanelli led the Hawks to their first state championship in program history last December — 35-22 over Tumwater — which capped a 14-0 season.

Racanelli, who threw for over 4,000 yards and 57 touchdowns during his senior campaign, was named Associated Press player of the year among class 2A schools in the state.

After a visit to Ellensburg in mid-January, Racanelli announced via Twitter that he had verbally committed to the NCAA Division II school.

In the message, Racanelli thanked God, his family, coaches and the community for helping him along the way.

“The biggest thing was the family feel,” Racanelli told The Reflector of why he chose the Wildcats, adding the college town reminded him a lot of Hockinson.

Racanelli went on to say that being a part of the Hockinson football’s first state championship was a special way to cap his football career in Clark County.

“It’s been great and I’m excited to keep it going in college,” he said.
