This week, Prairie High School head baseball coach Don Freeman will be inducted into the American Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame.

One of the most accomplished baseball coaches from Clark County over the last several decades, Freeman is returning as the Falcons head coach this spring, having won two state championships — 1986 and 1989 —  during his previous 22 years with the program.

Freeman, 66, has been coaching professional baseball in Europe over the last few years, and also coached at Heritage High School, Hillsboro High School and Clark College after his first stint at Prairie.

Along with this week’s induction into the American Baseball Coaches Association’s Hall of Fame, Freeman has earned Hall of Fame honors with Prairie, the Washington State Baseball Coaches Association and Washington Interscholastic Activities Association.

Freeman told The Reflector at the time of his hire that he doesn’t know how long he plans to coach the Falcons, but ending his career where it all began would be a meaningful way to wrap up his career.

“I really don’t know how long term this will be, but closing things out at Prairie would be something really special,” he said.
