Owsinski caps junior year with All-American status

Former Prairie standout Kristina Owsinski collected her second All-American accolade by placing fourth in the pole vault at the NCAA Division I Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Championships with a school-record mark of 14 feet, 5.25 inches for the University of Washington on June 11 in Eugene, OR.

With her vault, the junior collected All-American first team honors.

During the 2015 NCAA Division I Indoor Track and Field Championships, Owsinski collected All-American second team recognition after placing ninth in the pole vault with a jump of 13-9.25. Her previous personal record in the pole vault was 14-2, recorded in a first-place finish at the Pac-12 Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championship from May 15-16 in Los Angeles.

Hall posts low scores

Battle Ground graduate Chad Hall shot a 5-under 65 on May 18 in the second round of the NWAC Men’s League Championship in Lakewood to help Bellevue finish second in the team standings. Hall’s two-day total of 142 was good for third in the individual standings.

Hall, who has signed a letter of intent to play at California State University at East Bay next season, was named to the All-NWAC first team this season. He was a medalist three times this season, all in the fall. On one occasion, Hall made news when he shot a 63 in a fall league match at Highlander Golf Course in Wenatchee. NWAC reports indicated that Hall’s 63 tied an NWAC all-time record lowest 18-hole score.

Other BG golf news

Battle Ground High School’s Mackenzie Alamillo signed a letter of intent to play at Bellevue Community College next year. Teammate Erin Morse signed a letter of intent to play at Southwest Community College in Coos Bay, OR.

Maddy Alamillo just finished her senior year at Concordia. Alamillo helped the Cavaliers to a 16th-place finish at the NAIA Women’s Golf National Championships in Pooler, GA, last month. Alamillo had four-day total of 339, including a final round of 79 strokes to help Concordia climb in the standings.

Arn places third

Woodland graduate Charity Arn captured her third All-American accolade by placing third in the heptathlon at the NCAA Division III Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Championships with a personal-record score of 4,896 for George Fox University from May 21-23 in Canton, NY.

In 2014, Arn collected All-American honors during the indoor and outdoor track and field season by placing fifth in each of the national championships meets. Overall, she has qualified to compete in five national championship meets.

Phillips finishes freshman year

Former Prairie standout James Phillips finished his first collegiate season as a member of the Concordia University track team by competing in two events at the NAIA Men’s Outdoor Track and Field Championships from May 21-23 in Gulf Shores, AL.

In the competition, the freshman placed 16th in the long jump (22-3.25) and 17th with the 4x100-meter relay (41.53 seconds).

Bussey leads Concordia

Prairie grad Taylor Bussey led No. 9 Concordia University of Portland to clinch a school record in total wins (46) and to clinch a trip to compete at the 35th annual NAIA College World Series from May 22-27 in Sioux City, Iowa.



In the tournament, the Cavaliers finished with a 3-2 record to complete the season 46-19 overall.

On May 25, the Cavaliers rallied to a 7-1 victory against No. 5 Central Methodist College (44-9) with Bussey finishing 3-for-4 from the plate and scoring two runs.

Overall, Bussey concluded the season with 56 runs scored, 48 RBIs, 17 doubles, 14 home runs, two triples, two stolen bases and a .317 batting average.

Gawley collects awards

Prairie graduate Nick Gawley collected a number of postseason awards for his outstanding season as a sophomore outfielder for the Mount Hood Community College baseball program, including being selected as a Pacific Association All-American second team selection on June 6.

During the year, Gawley also collected Pacific Association Northwest Association Region first team honors and All-Northwest Athletic Conference first team. Overall, he finished with 39 runs scored, 29 RBIs, 11 doubles, four home runs and a .366 batting average en route to leading the Saints to a 35-14 record and a 20-4 mark in NWAC South Region play. He also garnered All-Academic NWAC standing for maintaining a 3.25 GPA.

Fischer a first-teamer

Former Battle Ground standout Krystina Fischer captured All-NWAC Southern Region first team recognition as a pitcher for the Lower Columbia College softball program, the conference announced on May 15.

For the season, the freshman compiled a 12-5 record in 115.2 innings, 98 strikeouts and a 2.60 ERA through 24 appearances and 19 starts en route to leading the Red Devils to finish 23-19 overall and 9-1 in NWAC South Region play.

Men’s track & field

• Luke Middelstadt (Prairie graduate, 2013) completed his sophomore season at Montana State University by finishing 14th in the pole vault at the Big Sky Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships with a leap of 14-8 on May 15 in Cheney.

• Mark Tedder (Battle Ground, 2013) concluded his sophomore season at Cornell University by placing 22nd in the 5,000-meter run at the IC4A/Eastern College Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships with a time of 15:15.56 on May 15 in Princeton, NJ.

Softball

• Haley Hamilton (Battle Ground, 2014) collected All-NWAC South Region second team honors as an outfielder for the Clark College softball program after finishing the season with 34 runs scored, 25 RBIs, 10 doubles, seven stolen bases, three triples, one home run and a .345 batting average.

Women’s track & field

• Andrea Olstead (Battle Ground, 2013) finished her sophomore season at Grand Canyon University by finishing runner-up in the triple jump (39 feet, 6.75 inches) and fifth in the long jump (18-2.25) at the Western Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships from May 13-16 in Orem, UT.

• Lindsay Tompkins (Prairie, 2013) completed her sophomore season at the University of Portland by placing 17th in the 1,500-meter run at the Portland Twilight Track Meet with a time of 4 minutes, 38.6 on May 17 in Portland.
