The Reflector

It’s hard to believe Hockinson trailed 14-0 at the beginning.

The Hawks erased any doubt by racking up 55 points in about 15 minutes to defeat W.F. West 62-28 in a district crossover game Friday at Battle Ground District Stadium.

With this win, the defending 2A state champions are right back where they belong — one of the last 16 teams standing and in pursuit of another state title.

After the Bearcats scored their second touchdown in the first seven minutes of the game Friday, Sawyer Racanelli gave the Hawks a boost by returning a kick off 90 yards for a touchdown.

Quarterback Levi Crum then delivered five touchdown passes in the second quarter, three to Racanelli and two to Peyton Brammer, and Hockinson had a 48-14 lead at halftime.

Joseph Brennan ran in a touchdown at the beginning of the third quarter and the Hawks had scored 55 unanswered points to jump-start the running clock. W.F. West finally got back into the end zone, but then Crum fired one more touchdown pass to Racanelli.

Hockinson (9-0) faces Washington High School (6-4) of Tacoma at 7 p.m., Friday, Nov. 9 at Battle Ground District Stadium.

Woodland goes down fighting against Tumwater

Woodland went toe-to-toe with 2017 state runner-up Tumwater for  three-quarters Saturday before the Thunderbirds defeated the Beavers 58-38.

A week after breaking his father’s school record for rushing yards in a season, Woodland quarterback Tyler Flanagan returned a kickoff for a 92-yard touchdown in the first quarter and rushed for three touchdowns in the second quarter to give the Beavers a 26-21 lead at halftime.

After Tumwater regained the lead in the third quarter, cousins Tyler and Isaiah Flanagan connected on a 93-yard touchdown pass to put the Beavers up 32-28.

The Thunderbirds just couldn’t be stopped. They scored four more touchdowns and added a safety on defense to put the game out of reach.

Reid Hope ran in one more touchdown for Woodland. The Beavers finished with an 8-2 record.

End of the road for La Center, Prairie

Elma beat La Center 33-21 in a 1A district crossover game Friday at La Center High School.

Wyatt Dodson returned a kick off for a 95-yard touchdown after Elma had just taken a 7-0 lead. Tom Lambert and Dodson also rushed for touchdowns to tie the score at 21-21 before halftime.

The Wildcats couldn’t get back in the end zone in the second half, while Elma scored two touchdowns in the fourth quarter to secure the victory.

After starting out the season 0-4, La Center finished with a 4-6 record.

Lincoln overwhelmed Prairie 52-6 Friday in a 3A district crossover game at Lincoln Bowl in Seattle.

The Abes led 38-0 at halftime, but the Falcons kept fighting. Nolan Mickenham caught a touchdown pass from A.J. Dixson in the third quarter. Prairie finished the season with a 5-5 record and made its first trip to the playoffs since 2011.
