The high school basketball postseason is scheduled to begin this week for schools in all classifications throughout southwest Washington.

By virtue of their Class 3A Greater St. Helens League (GSHL) title, the Prairie girls will have the opportunity to host a first-round game in the bi-district tournament. The Falcons, winners of their last 10 games and 17-3 on the season, will meet Enumclaw Thursday at 7 p.m. at Prairie High School.

A win in the first round would send Prairie into a quarterfinals matchup Saturday against the winner of Capital and Bonney Lake in a game to be played Sat., Feb. 13 at Franklin Pierce High School at 1:45 p.m. If the Falcons lose their first round game, they would play Saturday at Clover Park High School at 1:45 p.m.

The 3A bi-district tournament continues the following week and concludes with the final games on Sat., Feb. 20.

Prairie’s boys lost the opportunity to play their first-round playoff game at home when they lost to Columbia River 51-45 Saturday night in a tie-breaker game played at Fort Vancouver High School. The two teams split their two games during GSHL regular season play and shared the league title.

The Falcons (16-5) will open the 3A bi-district tournament Wed., Feb. 10 with a 7 p.m. game at Foss. Six teams will advance to the state tournament and those seeds will be determined on the final day of the bi-district tournament, Sat., Feb. 20.

Class 4A

Battle Ground’s boys and girls will have a long road to travel to advance out of the 4A district tournament. The Tigers finished fifth in the 4A GSHL with a 4-8 record (8-12 overall) and were scheduled to play a loser-out game Monday at Skyview.

A win in that Monday game would send Battle Ground into another loser-out game Wed., Feb. 10 at Union, the 4A GSHL champion. The district championship game is scheduled for Tue., Feb. 16 at 7 p.m. at Battle Ground High School.

The Battle Ground (5-7, 6-13) girls also finished fifth in the 4A GSHL during the regular season. The Tigers will play at Mountain View at 7 p.m. Tue., Feb. 9 in the first round of the district tournament. If the Tigers were to win that loser-out game, they would play at league-champion Skyview on Thu., Feb. 11) in another loser-out game for Battle Ground.

The district championship game is scheduled for Tue., Feb. 16 at 5:30 p.m. at Battle Ground High School.

Class 2A

The 2A GSHL still had a final round of league games to be played this week before area teams move on to district tournament later in the week.

Woodland’s boys (7-4, 12-7) had the opportunity to sew up the league’s No. 2 seed into the district tournament with a win at Hockinson Tuesday. Ridgefield’s boys (4-7, 8-11) could lock up the GSHL’s No. 5 seed into the district tournament with a win at Washougal on Tuesday.

Hockinson (8-3, 10-9) and Woodland (7-4, 10-9) were scheduled to meet on Monday to determine the GSHL girls No. 3 and No. 4 seeds. Ridgefield (3-8) needed a win Monday over Washougal and a R.A. Long win over Mark Morris to advance to the district tournament.

Class 1A

Despite losing their final game of the regular season, the La Center girls will also have the opportunity to host a first-round playoff game. The Wildcats, 18-2 on the season and co-Trico League champions with Kalama, will meet Eatonville on Thu., Feb. 11 at 7 p.m. at La Center High School.

The Class 1A district tournament continues through Feb. 19 when the top three teams will advance to the state tournament.

La Center’s boys will travel to Hoquiam for their first game of the district tournament, to be played Fri., Feb. 12 at 7 p.m. The Wildcats (11-9) are the No. 4 seed out of the Trico League.
