Battle Ground sophomore Alex Curran cut through the waters of the King County Aquatics Center in Federal Way on Feb.16 for a 4th place finish in the 100-meter backstroke. According to Battle Ground and Prairie’s head coach, Dan Kirkland, this was the first time a Tiger swimmer has placed in the final round of state. His time was 52.24, a personal best and a school record.   What’s more, last week Curran was named the 4A GSHL Swimmer of the Year.

Eight Prairie boys qualified and swam at the state championship: Zeke Cochran, Dylan Pedersen, Ben Jones, Patrick Kurfurst, Jonah Colagross, Noah Bruce, Colton Sadler, and Nathan Tuck.

According to Kirkland this was the first year Prairie has sent any swimmers to state since starting a swimming program four years ago.

Last week Sadler was named to the all-league 2nd team for 3A for 100 freestyle and 100 breaststroke, and Colagross was named to the all-league 2nd team in 3A for the 200 and 500 freestyle.
