Support for senior caregivers offered

Caring for someone with memory loss? Need support and information? Alzheimer’s Association caregiver support groups provide a place for caregivers to learn and gain support from others caring for a person with memory loss.

Support groups also serve as an opportunity for participants to receive information on care management, available services, and current research and treatment options.

A free support group for unpaid care partners, family members and friends of individuals with memory loss is held the last Monday of each month from 6:30-8 p.m. at Grace Lutheran Church, 9900 SE Mill Plain Blvd., Vancouver. Contact facilitator Lisa Rasmussen at (360) 281-2886 for details.

Alzheimer’s disease is one of the fastest growing concerns in the United States. It is the sixth leading cause of death in the nation, and the only cause of death in the top 10 without a way to prevent, cure, or slow its progression.

Within Washington State, the prediction is 150,000 people will be living with Alzheimer’s disease by 2025 – an 81 percent increase from the year 2000. In the year 2012, nearly 323,000 people in the state of Washington cared for loved ones living with dementia.

The Alzheimer’s Association is the world leader in Alzheimer’s disease research and support, and members are continually striving to progress and make a difference in the fight against this disease. Their vision is a world without Alzheimer’s. For more information on the Alzheimer’s Association, visit www.alzwa.org.
