Senior Living Options Forum to be held at BG Library

Area seniors and family members of seniors are invited to attend a Senior Housing Forum on Tue., Oct. 7, 6:30 p.m., at the Battle Ground Community Library, located in the Battle Ground Village at 1207 SE 8th Way, Battle Ground.

If you or your family had to choose a home away from home for you, do you know the options for various levels of care? Do you know the costs? The amenities? These and numerous other questions will be addressed at the Senior Housing Forum.

This forum is specifically designed for those who are looking ahead toward long-term senior housing for themselves or a family member. Panel participants will be Kathy McLoughlin with A Caring Heart, a senior care referral service; Shanti Potts, an advocate for seniors for 25 years; and Patti Gray of At Your Place, an adult family home.

Louise Tucker, one of the event organizers, said that they are many choices in senior housing for those who are no longer able to live alone. The panel will lay all those out and answer specific questions attendees might have. Tucker said they will also most likely have resource information and handouts.

Some of the questions the panel can help answer are: What questions should I ask when visiting a potential home? What is available for memory care? What is free and what is not? How do I choose the type of home away from home that is based on your needs that match the level of care provided? There will be a question and answer period after the presentation.

Some types of long-term care are assisted living facilities, adult family homes, memory care centers and skilled nursing facilities.

Tucker said the Friends of the Battle Ground Community Library did sponsor a similar forum event last fall, and they are hoping that even more people attend this year. This forum is part of several ongoing presentations of interest to the community. No registration or fee is required to attend.

A short business meeting of the Friends of the Battle Ground Community Library will be held at 6 p.m. immediately before the forum to which the public is also invited. For additional information, call the library at (360) 687-2322.
