The following North Clark County area students were recently named to the Dean’s List at Eastern Washington University for the winter 2014 quarter. Julie Marmion of Battle Ground was one of 1,594 students who were named to the Dean’s List for fall 2013 at Biola University. Biola students are placed on the Dean’s List to honor those with a grade point average of 3.6 or higher while enrolled in 12 or more credit units and whose cumulative grade point average is at least a 3.2. This past fall, 25 percent of Biola students achieved this academic goal.

Biola University is a leading Christ-centered university in Southern California that offers a premier, nationally-ranked education within the setting of an all-Christian community.

True Moua of Ridgefield was named to the honor roll at Spokane Community College for the winter 2014 quarter. To receive honor roll status, students must earn a 3.0 grade point average or higher.

Davis Delamarter of Ridgefield graduated from Azusa Pacific University on May 3. He joined nearly 1,500 graduates at the spring commencement ceremonies.

Azusa Pacific University is an evangelical Christian university committed to God first and excellence in higher education. With 61 bachelor’s degrees, 40 master’s degrees, 17 certificates, 11 credentials, eight doctoral programs and two associate degrees, the university offers its more than 10,000 students a quality education on campus, online, and at seven regional centers throughout Southern California.

Jody Robertson of Brush Prairie graduated from Simpson University with a bachelor’s degree in communication. Simpson University’s graduation ceremony took place on April 26. A total of 127 undergraduates received their diplomas.

A few North Clark County students recently graduated from Gonzaga University in Spokane and participated in graduation exercises during the commencement ceremony held May 11. The following students received their diploma: Naseeb Bhangal of Ridgefield graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, Hannah Grenz of Ridgefield graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Amanda Pecora of Brush Prairie graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in English, Kevin Roberts of Ridgefield graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and Chelsea Turner of La Center graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism.

Gonzaga University is dedicated to its Jesuit, Catholic and humanistic roots, educating the mind, body and spirit to create women and men for others. Gonzaga offers 75 undergraduate programs of study, 25 master’s degrees, a Ph.D. in leadership studies and a juris doctorate in law.

Tyler Pace and Darya Yastreb, both of Battle Ground, were named to the 2014 winter quarter Dean’s List at Seattle Pacific University. Students on the Dean’s List have completed at least 12 credits and attained a 3.5 or higher grade point average.

Founded in 1891, Seattle Pacific University is a leading Christian university that equips people to engage the culture and change the world. Its comprehensive academic program serves more than 4,000 undergraduate and graduate students.

Henry Wear of Ridgefield recently graduated with a Master of Science in Education from the University of Kansas. Graduation events were held May 18.

George Bunzendahl of Ridgefield recently graduated from John Brown University in Siloam Springs, AR. He received a Master of Science in Leadership and Ethics. Commencement ceremonies were held May 10.

More than 700 students earned a grade point average of 3.5 or higher to earn Dean’s List honors at George Fox University during the 2014 spring semester. The following students from North Clark County were named to the Dean’s List: Elizabeth Hull of Battle Ground, Trevor Levanen of Battle Ground, Lael Papenfuse of Battle Ground, Emily Warnes of Battle Ground, Emily Hylton of Brush Prairie and Tayler Main of Ridgefield.

George Fox University is ranked by Forbes among the top Christian universities in the country and is a Christian college classified by U.S. News & World Report as a first-tier regional university. More than 3,700 students attend classes on the university’s campus in Newberg, OR, and at teaching centers in Portland, Salem and Redmond, OR. George Fox offers bachelor’s degrees in more than 40 majors, degree-completion programs for working adults, six seminary degrees and 11 master’s and doctoral degrees.

On May 16, Brett Tompkins was awarded the degree of Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine by Western University of Health Sciences, College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific (COMP).



Tompkins, a 2003 graduate of Battle Ground High School, attended COMP on a U.S. Navy scholarship. Upon graduation, he was promoted to lieutenant, U.S. Navy, and assigned to Portsmouth, VA, Naval Hospital for his internship in Internal Medicine.

Several Battle Ground students were awarded degrees by WGU Washington on May 17 in Seattle. Shirley Hart received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Nikki Jones received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Inna Latyshevich received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Peter Berg received a Master of Arts in Teaching (Elementary K-8) and Carol Walker received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing.

Western Washington University student Jacob Daniel Boucher, son of Daniel and Karen Boucher of Battle Ground, received a $1,000 Alumni Association Leader Scholarship for the 2014-2015 academic year.

The Alumni Association Leader Scholarship is awarded to students who are making a difference in their communities, and contributing greatly to Western by actively participating in the life of the university.

Boucher, a junior, majors in Communication Studies. He is a resident adviser on campus and hopes to have a career in online content creation/editing.

The following North Clark County students were named to the Dean’s List at Gonzaga University in Spokane for the spring 2014 semester: Naseeb Bhangal of Ridgefield, Hannah Grenz of Ridgefield, Amanda Pecora of Brush Prairie, Kevin Roberts of Ridgefield and Vanessa Torjusen of Ridgefield. Students must earn a 3.7 to 4.0 grade-point average to be listed.

The following North Clark County students were named to the Dean’s List at Eastern Oregon University in La Grande, OR, for the winter 2014 term: Kevin Lusk of Battle Ground, Bryan Vogel of Woodland, Kristen Watkins of La Center and Scott Willis of Brush Prairie.

Qualifying students achieve and maintain a grade point average of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale while completing a minimum of 12 hours of graded coursework for the duration of the term. Eastern Oregon University is the university that works with its students. Timothy McCarthy of Brush Prairie recently graduated with a performance major from St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN. He is the son of John and Debra McCarthy.

Elijah Cronbaugh of Battle Ground was named to the Honors List at Graceland University in Lamoni, IA, for the spring 2014 term.

Graceland University students with a perfect 4.0 grade point average are named to the President’s List. Students with a GPA between 3.65 and 3.99 are named to the Honors List. Students with a GPA between 3.25 and 3.64 are named to the Dean’s List. Jaclyn Wiebold of Battle Ground was named to the Dean’s List at Concordia University in St. Paul, MN, for the spring 2014 semester. She is a senior majoring in Christian ministry.

Students with a grade point average of 3.5 or higher are recognized for superior academic performance by being named to the Dean’s List.
