Why stop at planting one row for the hungry?

In a letter to the editor published in the The Reflector on April 29, 2015, the writer said to plant a row for the hungry. How about planting more than that?

The Columbian Newspaper recently reported that the food banks in Clark County are no longer receiving veggies from Oregon, about 30,000 pounds. If we all plant as much as we can, we all can fill in that hole that was left.

Last year, my sister gave lots of her tomato plants to North County Community Food Bank so that the people in need could take them home and grow them.

When I brought my veggies in there the volunteer said my 90 pounds would be gone by noon. Altogether, we gave 1,200 pounds last year and 700 pounds in 2013. This year, so far we received help to get started with transplanting, with thousands of 4x4 pots to transplant the veggies we are growing from seed. Thanks so much Gary H. and Gary L. who came and volunteered for five hours to till our garden plots.

Now, I'm looking for five-inch round, 10-foot posts to put around the big garden to keep the deer from eating most of the veggies that were going to the food bank but never got there. If someone did kill the deer, they got a deer with organic veggies.

I stopped the Sharing is Caring event to put my energy in growing veggies for the people in need. I was excited when a Boy Scout wanted to help us with the garden for his Eagle Scout project but he could not because we are not a 401c3 and we will not be. We are doing it for the food bank and people in need. We may get a row for ourselves to eat fresh. We are put on this earth by my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ to help each other when we can. When we were in need, people helped us now we are helping other people.

Bridget Schwarz put in her letter that it is not fun to weed a row for the hungry. Last year, we as a family were trying to plant, weed and harvest 100 rows, 60-feet-long for the hungry (this year we are going bigger, if we can build a fence to keep the deer out). We do need help with this project. I believe my Lord will send help.

God bless all who are helping the hungry.
