Should the Assessor’s Office be audited?

Posted

The Assessor’s Office assessed the following property for $212,613. They paid only $5,044 last year for property tax.

Eighty acres, three houses (currently adding on to one of them), one office, two restaurants (main park and old beer garden), four covered pavilions (seats 750, 250, 200 and 150 people, respectively), one large in-ground concrete swim pool, one pool house, one acre man-made lake for paddle wheel boats, one 18-hole mini golf course, two asphalt driveways, one parking lot for 1,100 vehicles, equipment maintenance sheds and accommodates 6,000 guests.

This is a private park located near Hockinson which allows the public to use it for a fee. This information was verified with the Assessor’s Office. Do you think this is fair and equitable? Most homeowners pay more than this. If the Assessor’s Office is making these kinds of oversights, it is no wonder that our schools, fire departments and police departments don’t have enough money to operate, and why we have so many potholes on our streets.

Don’t you think the Assessor’s Office needs to improve and insure that all assessments are current, and all properties are accounted for? Maybe the Assessor’s Office needs to be audited.
