Approval of Regional Fire Authority is good for taxpayers

Posted

On April 28, voters are being asked to approve the formation of a Regional Fire Authority (RFA) that will combine Clark County Fire & Rescue, Clark Fire District 2 and the City of Woodland into one fire agency.

The RFA plan is the result of over two years of extensive planning by elected representatives from the three entities. The cost to taxpayers within the City of Woodland and taxpayers within Clark County Fire & Rescue, including Ridgefield and La Center, will not change.

Approval of the RFA will establish a single fire department that will allow for better coordination and long-term planning. Oversight of the RFA will rest with a five-member Board of Fire Commissioners, down from the current eight commissioners.

Approval of the RFA is good for the taxpayers and good for the communities it will serve. I am asking voters to join me in voting “Yes’’ on April 28.
