Ridgefield schools provide a very good return on community’s investment

Posted

We believe the investment we make today in all children’s education dictates, not only their future success as individuals, but the success of our society as well. We are fortunate in Ridgefield because our schools provide great results for students and a very good return on the community’s investment. Great schools are also a prerequisite to protecting our home and property values.

Our current levy expires at the end of 2016. Voter approval to replace the levy is required every three years. The levy is not a new tax and is not a bond for new facilities. It simply replaces currently approved funding. Ridgefield School District (RSD) receives less than 80 percent of the funding for basic education costs from the state. Local funding from the levy bridges the gap between what the state pays and the actual costs of operating our schools.

The very high quality education provided by Ridgefield’s schools is directly related to the funding that comes from the levy. This includes Cispus outdoor school, the STEM program, classroom computers, and teacher positions and training. Our current levy is close to the lowest of any school district in Clark County.

Ballots were mailed Jan. 22. Please return yours right away with a “Yes’’ vote for the RSD replacement levy.
