Take the time to listen and learn before passing judgment

In response to Michelle Yenderrozos’ opinion of the recent Patriot Prayer rallies in Battle Ground. I have lived in the Amboy area for over 40 years. I remember when the town had only one flashing yellow light at the intersection of Main and 503. I don’t live in Battle Ground, but do most of my business there. Because our opinions don’t align, are you suggesting I stay out of your “quiet city”?

I met the people at the rallies and joined them. They are a peaceful group of veterans, grandmothers, grandfathers, husbands, wives and young adults. They are community members who have a common goal, keeping our right to keep and bear arms and assemble peacefully to rally for this freedom.

Please be truthful. No sidewalk was blocked as you suggested in your letter. The kids in Kiwanis Park were enjoying their day and were not affected by the rally. We observed children playing at the park just as they would any typical day.

From what I have learned about the vote on I-1639, which infringes on my right to gun ownership in Washington state, Battle Ground citizens voted against passing this law. This initiative was passed by the big Washington state cities. On this, you are in the minority in Battle Ground, Michelle.

My husband lost his legs in Vietnam, my daughter fought two tours in Iraq, my father fought in the Invasion of Normandy, my brothers, uncles, great-great-grandfather all fought in wars for your right to express your naïve and biased opinions, Michelle. They also fought for the right to express my opinions, even if they differ from yours. Allow me that right, just as I would allow you to do the same without malice or complaint.

Open your mind, Michelle. Learn what responsible gun ownership is all about. Take some lessons at a gun range. Get to know the people there. You will learn your opinions will change and we are all just normal people who enjoy our freedom to keep and bear arms.
