The EPA Wants Us to Enjoy Clean Water

Posted

Regarding your April 27 front-page article “EPA Slammed by 145 House Reps,” it’s no surprise that 142 of them (such as Rep. Herrera Butler) are House Republicans. Guess who else the NY Times found were always opposed to the EPA’s Clean Water Act? Developers, fertilizer and pesticide makers, oil and gas producers, a national association of golf course owners, and those who put business profits over our environment.

So, no surprise there. What surprised me was that the Reflector’s General Manager was so quick to jump on their bandwagon in her editorial: “next thing you know [the EPA will be] asking us to filter the water that runs along…our house because we might have put fertilizer on the lawn.”

Tongue-in-cheek, perhaps, but your newspaper makes it sound like the EPA is a bad thing! It’s not. Their Clean Water Act is intended to ensure you and I, and our children, can continue to enjoy clean, healthy water. It’s supported by 80% of all voters; 80% of small business owners; and 100% of birds, fish, frogs, and turtles!
