Undersized, well-worn facilities

The Battle Ground School District’s April 24 bond measure is modest, responsible and necessary. Sadly, a vocal minority of perpetual public school opponents continues to insist that the district is wallowing in cash, while overpaid teachers relax in opulent facilities. If you have students in the district, you know how ridiculous these assertions are. In fact, I’m convinced that Battle Ground is subsisting more frugally than any other district in the county. It has been limping along on undersized, well-worn facilities and an ever-increasing number of portable classrooms since our sons entered kindergarten at Maple Grove Primary in the 1990’s. Your approval of this bond will allow facilities expansion and improvement to help accommodate the ever-increasing student population. Even with your approval of this bond, the “total schools tax rate” is projected to go down in 2019. Do the right thing for our growing community- vote YES on April 24.
