I urge opposition to the proposed Kalama methanol refinery

With the most recent report from climate change scientists, we must stop the atmospheric temperature from increasing beyond 1.5 C. These experts warn that immediate action will stave off a potential increase of 3.0 C to 4.9 C by 2100. We are proud that Governor Inslee believes climate change science. It then makes little sense that Governor Inslee would support Northwest Innovations Works in their goal to construct a methanol refinery in Kalama, a refinery that would increase the State of Washington’s contribution to greenhouse emissions by 10 percent by 2025. This refinery would be the largest source of greenhouse emission in the state and threaten the environment due to inevitable spills from pipelines and methanol tankers that will put endangered salmon, and the communities — including the orca — who depend upon them, at even greater risk. For each of these negative effects, I urge you to oppose the proposed Kalama methanol refinery.
