An open letter to elected officials

Once again I waded into my annual tax return and once again I am reminded that you have done nothing for the American People to help simplify this process. One more year has gone by and you have failed to do any type of meaningful tax reform.

My wife and I are retired and have simple income and deductions. Having said that our tax return was 27 pages long and the supporting documents were in five manila envelopes, 3.5 inches high, weighing 4 pounds. In my opinion this is ridiculous.

Now there is a question in the tax return about our health care, which is none of your business. I answered this under protest to finish my return. Now, there is another form in the tax return showing whether or not we had health care. For my wife and I there are 12 boxes each representing the months we had coverage in 2014. Are you people for real?

Also, the threshold for medical deductions went from 7.5 percent to 10 percent. This is a whopping 33.33 percent increase. This may not seem like a lot to you but for citizens on fixed income it is a big deal. Apparently this got through with Obama Care. One of those things Nancy Pelosi said we would find out once the law was passed.

Do you people in Washington even care that you are held in such low esteem? All you do is bicker, bicker, bicker and nothing gets done. Obama Care is a disaster, immigration laws are not being enforced, our tax system needs an overhaul, we are in debt by over $18 trillion and rising, our southern border is a sieve, nothing is being done to fix Social Security and Medicare, we are under attack and have a president who does not care about the rule of law. Need I go on?

I just gave you the eight things that I feel are the most important to fix. Fix these and everything else will fall in place.

A concerned citizen.
