Do right by Ed and Dollie Lynch

Posted

There was an article in The Columbian on December 12 titled  “‘Lynch Park’ angers some residents.” Ed and Dollie Lynch were generous philanthropists who gave money and donated land that the park will sit on. They asked that the park be named after them. It is hard to believe, but some folks do not like the Lynch name because it brings up the image of hangings. The kind Lynch family did nothing wrong other than having a last name that some folks don’t like. According to Google, “Based on US Census Bureau data the estimated population of people named Lynch is 135,173.” Should these 135,173 people feel ashamed to bear the last name of Lynch? Maybe they should change their names? The park should be named for the family that donated money and land. Anything less than that is wrong.
