Dorothy Gasque has proved to me she is our best choice

I am loathe to perpetrate more negativity, but after meeting with Dorothy Gasque I have to set this straight. I cannot know if I am more disappointed with the “Best Disinfectant” letter because of the filth and defamation coupled with the disconnection from society exhibited or in the simple fact that the letter was even printed.

I went to the campaign office to find out more about the candidate that everyone hopes will unseat the current Republican incumbent in our 3rd Congressional District. I spent the entire day volunteering and visiting with Dorothy. After showing me this defamatory letter to The Reflector, she stressed the importance of avoiding negativity towards other candidates. She tells that to everyone who works on the campaign. Dorothy was adamant that she had never met this Heather Leasure until after the original letter was published and Heather attended a political forum. This doesn’t even make sense as she explained, any candidate knows it is a bad idea to give publicity, “even bad,” to a competitor. Plus, this is a grassroots campaign and there is no corporate money floating around for a mysterious “operative.”

In my short time in the office and visiting with the people filling it, who are all here on a voluntary basis, I feel strongly that this is a positive movement. I graduated from Portland State University in 2012 with a B.S. in Psychology after attending Clark College. I have been involved in politics since 2016 and am well-versed in most important issues. I feel qualified to state that I believe her to be everything one could hope for in a political candidate. Her primary platform issue is what many Americans, including me, are coming to realize must be addressed before anything substantive is going to change. We have to get corporate money out of politics so that the important decisions are put back in the hands of citizens.

The following is an effort give you an idea of the kind of person Dorothy Gasque is: first and foremost, she is a servant, and she knows instinctively that is the way to lead. Dorothy has a beautiful heart and is generous as exemplified by her speaking at length on any issue brought forth. Great answers. And believe this, I was testing her and even got a bit surly. Despite the obvious symptoms of the summer cold she was suffering from, Dorothy answered everything well, and she did it with style and grace all while balancing on an eight-foot ladder, writing the names of repeat donors to the campaign on the wall.

Dorothy is plainspoken yet smart as a whip. Everybody says how hard working she is, and I bear witness. As evidence she served in Iraq as the only female in her unit, on patrol, eight years before women were officially “allowed” in combat. Laziness was not an option.

Although this was all gleaned in a day, I cannot imagine my opinion will change.
