Vote for candidates who will protect our valuable assets

The election on November 6 could never be more important. All voters need to exercise their Constitutional right, that many Americans fought and died for us to give this privilege.

Regulations in America are viewed differently by various candidates.

The East Fork of the Lewis River is a great example of what regulations can do. That river has been one of the best steelhead rivers in the Northwest due to regulations written to preserve the water quality from logging and other human activities. Currently, gravel pit mining and fracking is threatening the pristine condition of the Lewis River. (Read the Sept. 19 issue of The Reflector). Our current County Commissioner Tom Mielke has looked the other way while the river is damaged. Voting for Joe Tanner (D) could save the Lewis River.

This is just one example of the differences between Republicans and Democrats. The Republicans see profits as the only way to create jobs. The Democrats want to guide corporations to greater job creation along with safeguarding the environment. This concept will open jobs in fishing, tourism, conservation and a host of other job-creating industries.

When reading and marking your ballot, remember the “D” by a candidate’s name stands for “drive forward” and the “R” by the candidate’s name stands for “reverse”, the direction of the country.
