Amelia (Mildred) Pickinpaugh

Amelia (Mildred), 97 ,was born in Melbeta, Nebraska to Henry and Anna Greenwaldt. She was the youngest of five sisters and one brother, later joined by a younger brother. At age 6, the family moved to the Nisland, SD vicinity, where they farmed. 

Amelia began attending a country school, where she learned to speak and write in English. Her teacher “Americanized” her German name, Amelia, to Mildred. She excelled in school, winning many awards in Math, Spelling and Penmanship. 

After attending school, Mildred stayed on the farm to help her parents. In 1942 she married Irvin Ginter in Sturgis, SD. They raised four children together, divorcing in 1976. In 1977 Mildred married Ross Pickinpaugh in Vancouver, WA where they made their home until his passing in 2005. 

Mildred is survived by daughters Kathy (Chuck) and Judy, grandsons Jerry, Jordan and Jeff, granddaughter Stacey and ten great-grandchildren, all of Vancouver, WA. She was preceded in death by husbands Irvin and Ross, sons Garrett and Gerald, grandson Brandon and granddaughter Jennifer. 

A graveside Memorial Service was held for family on March 23, 2019 at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery. A special thank you from our family to Amber at Riverside Guardianship, to Rivercrest Family Home and to Barbara and Donna for the exceptional Love and care you gave to Mildred.
