Longtime Clark County resident and Iraq War veteran Dorothy Gasque has declared candidacy for the U.S. House of Representatives Washington District 3 seat.

Gasque announced a candidate meet and greet for her campaign set for 6 p.m. on June 13 in a release last week. She is challenging current U.S. Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler, R-Camas, for her seat.

Gasque, an eight-year Army veteran, had previously been a delegate for the Democratic National Convention in the 2016 election, the release stated. It cited that her “battle tested leadership style and organizing abilities contributed greatly to campaigns in the 2016 cycle.”

The release stated that Gasque’s reason for running focused on returning government to the people.

“When elected I will always be available and accountable to every constituent regardless of how big their pockets are," she stated in the release.

Gasque is one of three Democratic candidates who have announced their candidacy for Herrera Beutler’s spot. She joins former 2016 Congressional candidate David McDevitt and newcomer Peter Harrison for the position that is up for election next year.
