The one-lane bridge leading into the River S Unit of the Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge will be closed during weekdays as contractors work to replace the structure with an improved, two-lane bridge set to open spring 2020.

A notice from Ceccanti Inc., the contractor for the project, stated that beginning March 18 the bridge, located on Refuge Road west of South Hillhurst Road, would be closed from Monday through Friday and open on the weekends. The work will replace the current wooden, one-lane bridge with a two-lane concrete structure that will go over both Lake River and the railroad crossing that currently meets with Refuge Road at-grade.

Ceccanti Inc. noted it would be giving weekly updates during the project, which according to its first newsletter is scheduled for completion April 16.
