On April 19 around 6 p.m., Vancouver Police were dispatched after a man later identified to be Anthony Lybeck, 31  hijacked a C-Tran bus around NE Covington Rd./NE Fourth Plain Blvd. and demanded a lift to Portland, according to a Vancouver Police news release.

The suspect said he had a gun, but the news release said the weapon was never seen.

There were no passengers on the bus when it happened.

Patrol officers laid out spike strips in an attempt to stop the bus as the driver continued toward Portland, but they did not work. On the I-205 bridge the bus was slowed by evening traffic and officers were able to get in front and stop it.

The driver came away safely and the suspect was taken into custody with no incident and booked into the Clark County Jail on Kidnap I.
