Shop BG: Add flowers and other complements to holiday festivities

Posted

Flowers and holidays go hand in hand. Who can think of Thanksgiving without a well-placed centerpiece to complement the meal? Or, Christmas without poinsettias lending a festive feel to a room?

Main Street Floral, in business since 2008, is a terrific resource for every floral need this Christmas season. It’s true that bouquets of flowers, plants and centerpieces can be purchased at more places today than a stand-alone floral shop. However, a traditional florist is still often the best person to turn to for custom orders with specific colors and themes.

Custom orders don’t stop at flower arrangements. Main Street Floral carries a wide selection of wreaths and garlands, both of which can be live or artificial. Their service extends beyond the sale to freshening up customers’ artificial purchases from year to year.

If someone has a special container they want to use for an arrangement or plant purchased at Main Street Floral, they’re happy to use that. Likewise, if an area resident wants to add a special gift that wasn’t purchased at the shop, the florists will artfully tuck that into a flower or plant order. Be aware that they’re not able to deliver valuable items like an engagement ring with a dozen roses, though that has been requested. On that note, they do deliver, which is a service grocery stores, for example, do not offer.

Gift baskets are a popular item around the holidays and Main Street Floral has a lot of in-shop options as well as catalog gift ideas. They carry area wines daily from Heisen House Vineyards, Olequa Cellars and Three Brothers Winery. Handmade soaps, lotions and lip balms from River County Soapworks, located in Yacolt, is another local business supported by the shop.

While not locally-owned, Abdallah Chocolates is a fourth generation, family-owned business with an American tradition that dates back to 1909.

Marilyn Moeser, owner of Main Street Floral, said, “I try to support small businesses. Abdallah is one of those family businesses. Not only do I like their product, but I like the story behind them.”

All of the ornaments displayed on the lovingly-decorated trees and wreaths that adorn Main Street Floral this time of year are also for sale. Ornaments make a wonderful addition to a gift basket or purchased separately as a hostess gift, a Christmas stocking stuffer or slid onto the neck of a bottle of wine for a neighbor gift. Cards are available to jot a personal note and complete a Christmas or holiday purchase without having to make another stop. Right now, every Christmas gift and décor item is 30 percent off.

If area residents have out-of-town family or friends on their holiday list, be aware that Main Street Floral belongs to Flower Shop Network, which supports locally-owned florists in the U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico. Simply use the catalog provided in the shop and the order will be delivered to loved ones around North America. And, if Uncle Frank wants to send a gift basket to someone in Hockinson, he can call Main Street Floral’s 800 number to order it.

With 27 years in the industry, Moeser knows flowers. She knows quality and is committed to providing the best arrangements and products available. As with most smaller businesses, she and the rest of the staff at Main Street Floral consider customer service paramount.

This year, Moeser is thrilled to be a part of KGW’s Great Toy Drive. Customers will receive 20 percent off any fresh floral arrangement with each new, unwrapped toy brought in. She’s quick to give credit for their participation to delivery driver, Ty McKay.

“I’m really excited about the toy drive this year. It’s the spirit of giving. What better way to give than to a child who’s less fortunate, “ Moeser said.
