The second of a series of transportation solutions town hall meetings hosted by Washington state Rep. Liz Pike, R-Camas, is scheduled for this Saturday, showcasing five different strategies regarding a new travel corridor across the Columbia River.
Pike scheduled the event at the Dengerink Administration Building on the Washington State University Vancouver campus, a release from the Washington state House Republicans stated.
The goal of the town hall is to bring together engineers and the public to analyze the possibilities of alternate corridors over the Columbia apart from the Interstate 5 and Interstate 205 routes.
“The main objective of this town hall is to hear directly from citizens and gain public support for a common-sense process that puts us on a path toward real solutions that would address our current and future transportation infrastructure needs,” Pike stated in the release.
Plans to be presented include additional corridors east and west of the existing interstates, a flyover near the current I-5 corridor, a tunnel underneath the river and, new for this town hall, a double-decker bridge including passenger rail (that plan features heavy rail, not the light rail that has been a point of contention among Clark County residents).
The public will have the chance to ask questions following each of the proposal presentations, the release stated. The last hour of the event will be for public comment.
