Gee Creek rest area closures underway

The Washington State Department of Transportation is closing both southbound and northbound Gee Creek rest areas this month for annual maintenance, the department announced Monday.

The southbound rest area has been closed since 1 a.m., April 8, and will remain closed until 4:30 p.m., April 12. The northbound rest area will be closed from 1 a.m. April 15 to 4:30 p.m. April 19.

Both locations are near Interstate 5’s Exit 11 onto State Route 502 leading into Battle Ground.

WSDOT maintenance crews are doing a deep clean of each location during the closures and are also repairing damaged picnic areas, updating landscaping and conducting safety inspections of electrical and plumbing systems.

Both rest areas are some of the busiest in the state. Based on the number of toilet flushes, WSDOT reasoned each location gets about 800,000 visitors annually.
