Valenzuela resigns from La Center council

La Center City Councilmember Joseph Valenzuela announced his retirement July 26.

“On behalf of the entire City Council, I want to express my sincere appreciation to Joe for his exceptional service for the City of La Center,” said Mayor Greg Thornton.

Valenzuela joined the City Council in 2014. He also served as an alternate representative on the C-Tran Board and was La Center’s liaison with the Port of Ridgefield.

The City of La Center is accepting applications to fill the unexpired term of this City Council position. The remainder of this term runs until December 31, 2019.



In compliance with state law, qualified candidates must be a U.S. citizen and a resident and registered voter of the City of La Center for at least one year prior to appointment.

Interested persons should submit a letter of interest and provide a statement of qualifications. Applications will be accepted until 5 p.m. August 31, after which the City Council will review the applications, conduct appropriate interviews and select a person at the September 12th City Council meeting to serve until the city holds an election in November 2019.
