Herrera Beutler giving vets chance to preserve their stories

Posted

U.S. Representative Jaime Herrera Beutler, R-Camas, announced last week that Southwest Washington veterans can take part in a live event Oct. 16 in which she, her staff and members of the military community will conduct one-on-one, 30-minute interviews with the veterans about their wartime experiences.

The interviews will then be submitted for preservation as part of the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress.

“Congress created the Veterans History Project, and it is a great honor to offer its services to Southwest Washington veterans where these individuals’ experiences and stories will be preserved,” said Herrera Beutler. “This is a small way we can show our veterans that we acknowledge all they’ve been through by listening to their accounts of war, thank them for their sacrifice for our country’s freedom, and honor them by allowing future generations to hear directly from our nation’s heroes.”

Additional details for the event such as time and location have not been announced, but those who wish to participate should RSVP by contacting Louise Fendrich in Herrera Beutler’s Vancouver office at 360-695-6292 or
