Battle Ground Roadmap survey attracts over 2,000 responses

More than 2,000 people responded to a survey that will help community leaders decide Battle Ground’s future.

The Navigators, a 12-member group of volunteers selected to lead the Battle Ground Roadmap vision and planning process, launched the survey in mid-July. It tested four possible scenarios for Battle Ground’s future: “Town & Country,” “Family Friendly Enclave,” “Gateway to Outdoor Adventure” and “Future Forward.”

While all four scenarios received backing, over half of all participants selected Town & Country as their preferred vision for Battle Ground’s future. If that vision were to come to life, city staff describes Battle Ground as being “an authentic and unique community supported by a diverse economy that offers a full range of in-town services and amenities serving North County, featuring a traditional downtown district with shops and cafes – all maintaining a commitment to Battle Ground’s rural, small town heritage and history.”

Participant comments and ideas received with the surveys provided additional input and are being compiled and analyzed for presentation by the Navigators.

The community wide visioning and strategic planning process is designed to chart a direction for Battle Ground’s future. The project began earlier this year with a comprehensive analysis of the area’s demographic and economic trends and interviews with a cross-section of community stakeholders.

The goal of the Battle Ground Roadmap project is to develop a shared vision for the future, based on core community values, and build an action plan – a roadmap – to achieve that vision.

The project will result in a strategic plan that will guide city policy and align resources accordingly.

The Navigators meet from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 18 at Battle Ground City Hall to discuss the survey results.

Members from the public are welcome to attend.
