The hunt for a county manager is back on

Last week the Clark County Council turned away both final candidates for the county manager position.

The council determined that neither Dan Chandler, an assistant county administrator for Clackamas County in Oregon who lived in Clark County for two decades in the past, nor Randall Partington, the administrator for Finney County in Kansas, “had the specific combination of skills and qualities they were seeking,” according to county staff.

Soon after the council announced its decision, which it said came after lengthy discussions over two days, it directed Strategic Government Resources, the Texas-based search firm they first hired last fall, to again find worthy candidates.

Former Surprise, Arizona city manager Jim Rumpeltes has been filling the role of county manager on an interim basis since the council voted last May to not renew Mark McCauley’s contact and to immediately terminate his employment with the county.
