Sprinklers could have helped knock down home fire

Lack of sprinklers aided in the damage to a large home just south of Battle Ground in an early Sunday morning blaze.

When firefighters arrived the more than 7,000-square-foot home at 12605 NE 184th St. was on fire in the basement, first floor, second floor and the attic. Clark County Fire & Rescue responded, and as soon as they were on scene, called in for assistance by Clark County Fire District 3 and the Vancouver Fire Department.

Clark County Fire & Rescue Division Chief Tim Dawdy said everyone inside the home escaped from harm.

“We hope people learn a lesson from this,” Chief Dawdy said. “When building a big residence, it needs to be sprinkled.”
