Clark County Jail inmate found deceased identified as BG man

A Clark County Jail inmate who apparently committed suicide on Friday, April 22, has been identified as 23-year-old Dustin M. Graves of Battle Ground.

According to a news release from the Clark County Sheriff’s Office, Graves was found alone in his cell unconscious and unresponsive at 5:42 p.m. on April 22. Deputies summoned aid and immediately began CPR.

Vancouver Fire Rescue and AMR responded and administered emergency medical aid. All efforts to resuscitate Graves were unsuccessful and emergency medical personnel declared him deceased at 6:09 p.m.

According to the Clark County Medical Examiner’s Office, Graves died of asphyxia due to hanging. 



Graves was in jail pending trial on charges of second-degree assault, unlawful imprisonment and reckless endangerment, all of which were domestic violence related crimes.

The death is under investigation by the Clark County Major Crimes Unit.
