BG Deputy Mayor Shane Bowman announces Clark County Council bid

Battle Ground Deputy Mayor Shane Bowman announced last night his intent to seek the open Clark County Council seat that will soon be vacated by current District 4 councilor Eileen Quiring.

Bowman touted his tenure as an elected official in his announcement. He has been a Republican precinct committeeman for the past five years and a Battle Ground city councilor since 2012, including a stint as mayor from 2014 to 2016.

“I am seeking the appointment to the Clark County Council to apply my leadership skills. Over the last eight years I have honed my ability to work effectively with diverse people and communities. I feel my experience will be an asset to Clark County and its residents," Bowman’s announcement reads.

Quiring’s seat will soon be open as a result of her winning the election for Clark County Council chair in Nov., an at-large position. Quiring is also a Republican.

Given that Quiring is moving to a different position on the council before her current term is up, per the Washington State Constitution, the political party affiliated with her must come up with three appointees to fill her seat. The Clark County councilors will then choose one.

Bowman ran for the Washington State Representative in 2016, losing in the primary to incumbent Republican Liz Pike and challenger Democrat Kathy Gillespie.

Bowman has lived in Battle Ground since 2003. He founded Western States Fire Equipment in 1997 with his wife, Loren, which sells fire protection equipment.
