Lewis River Rotary celebrates 20 years as chartered club

On Jan. 26, Lewis River Rotary in Battle Ground celebrated 20 years as a chartered Rotary Club in a ceremony at the Fairgate Inn in Camas.

The evening was filled with memorable stories from some of the original members, including Matthew Todd, Bob Brink, Mary Strehlow, Ina Tichenor, Ralph Akin, David Miller and David Jay. Other members were honored for their service in the community, including Jann Byrd, Ken and Deeneva Coats, John Halver, Kathleen Hensch-Fleming, Matthew Todd, Robyn Kim, Jeff Lines, Richard Haas and Maureen Girven.

In keeping with their motto, “Service Above Self,” the Lewis River Rotary Club has donated to such area charities as the Collins Coats for Kids, North County Community Food Bank, ROCKSOLID Community Teen Center, Clark County Fire Cadets, Pomeroy Living History Farm, Battle Ground High School Interact Club, new dictionaries for all third graders in the Battle Ground area, as well as many other regional and international projects.



Lewis River Rotary sponsored the chartering of the Battle Ground Rotary Club in 2010, the Battle Ground High School Interact Club and the Rotary Community Corp. In 2012, Lewis River Rotary granted more than $18,000 to high school seniors toward college scholarships. The group raises funds with an annual charity auction that will be held this year Sat., May 11, 5:30 p.m., at the Heathman Lodge in Vancouver.
