Battle Ground Public Schools and the Battle Ground Education Association reached a tentative agreement on a new contract for teachers and certified educational professionals in the district Saturday, ending a 12-day strike that started Aug. 29.

“We are pleased to reach a tentative agreement that will allow the district to recruit and retain quality teachers,” Superintendent Mark Ross stated in a press release. “We are looking forward to starting the school year and coming together to focus on our mission of educating students.”

The bargaining teams worked with the support of the state mediator until 3:30 a.m. Saturday morning and then returned to the table a few hours later to reach a resolution.

BGEA members will vote to ratify the agreement Sunday. The new school year is expected to start Monday.

Information about the tentative agreement will be released after BGEA ratification and board approval. For updates, visit the district website at battlegroundps.org.
