Crystal Steinmueller, president of 2 Hands 7 Continents, will return to Africa this summer.

Steinmueller works in the special education department at Battle Ground High School, and for the last seven years she has spent her summer vacations volunteering on a global scale. This summer, she will spend four weeks volunteering in Zambia with Inspiring Minds Children’s Home, located in Livingstone.

Inspiring Minds Children’s Home is an organization that was set up in response to the growing number of children affected by HIV/AIDS. As well as running an orphanage, the organization also works with local schools, hospitals and health clinics. Steinmueller will spend most of her time at the orphanage, as well as promoting HIV/AIDS education.

Steinmueller is no novice to international volunteer service. Since 2007, she has volunteered in eight countries, ranging from Nepal to Guatemala.

“I really embrace the concept of voluntravel,” Steinmueller said. “It allows me to learn more about the local communities I am in not as a tourist, but as someone who really cares about what’s going on.”
