Council offers chances to adopt or foster a horse

If you are in the market for a horse, there are many options available from buying or leasing to adopting or fostering.

The Clark County Executive Horse Council (CCEHC) offers both fostering and adoption through their Adopt-a-Horse Program.

Fostering a horse means you take care of the horse for a temporary period of time until a suitable home is found. The foster caregiver is responsible for the feeding, grooming, general care, veterinary and farrier appointments. There are funds, supplies and donations to cover up to 100 percent of expenses.

To adopt a horse you would purchase it and often receive three training sessions with the horse.

Both options require a contract to be filled out, inspection of horse accommodations, references and background checks.

The CCEHC works hard to match the horse’s personality with the right family. Since many of the horses were relinquished to Clark County Animal Control, the CCEHC wants to make sure that the next home the horses go to is the right home for them.

If you are interested knowing more about the CCEHC or getting help for your horse, feel free to contact Lori Harris 360-798-3515.

There are many horses available for adoption in addition to the ones shown here.
