Clark County investigating death at jail

The Clark County Major Crimes Unit is investigating the death of a Vancouver man held at the Clark County Jail late last month.

The Clark County Sheriff’s Office, which runs jail operations, announced the death May 26. The deceased, Dylan Elia, 38, was found unresponsive in the booking detox area of the jail shortly after 11 a.m. that day.

Upon discovery, jail personnel began to attempt to save Elia’s life, requesting emergency medical assistance, according to the sheriff’s office announcement. Vancouver Fire Department EMS arrived and pronounced Elia dead.

A Clark County Medical Examiner’s release a few days later confirmed it was Elia who died, though at that time the cause and manner of death were pending. The medical examiner’s office did not release a cause and manner as of press deadline.

According to a Clark County Jail roster, Elia was booked for driving with a suspended license and had a court appearance two days before his death.
