Annual asphalt paving program to start next week near BG

The county has scheduled a contractor to get an early start on summer road paving with repairs and other preliminary work beginning the first week of June.

Clark County awarded a $3.16 million contract to Lakeside Industries, based in Issaquah, to repair and pave sections of 12 county roads using a process known as an asphalt overlay.

This year’s overlay program will cover nearly 27 lane miles of county roadway and use approximately 30,000 tons of asphalt.

Work that likely will affect the most people will be on Northeast 29th Avenue, from Northeast 134th Street to Northeast 179th Street in the Mount Vista area.

Drivers should expect lane closures and delays during construction, which will wrap up sometime in late summer or early fall.

The contractor’s schedule can change frequently because of weather and other factors. Throughout the season, temporary roadside signs will alert drivers before work begins on a particular road section.

Lakeside Industries expects to start work the first week of June on Northeast 152nd Avenue/Rock Creek Road, north of Battle Ground.

The following 12 road sections will be repaved as part of the asphalt overlay program:

• Northeast 152nd Avenue/Rock Creek Road, from 300 feet north of Northeast Hammond Road to Northeast Lewisville Highway/State Route 503

• Northeast 29th Avenue, from Northeast 134th Street to Northeast 179th Street

• Northeast 72nd Avenue, from Northeast 199th Street to 950 feet south of Northeast 219th Street/State Route 502

• Northeast 72nd Avenue, from 925 feet north of Northeast 219th Street/State Route 502 to Northeast 249th Street

• Northeast Stauffer Road, from Northeast 316th Court to Northeast 292nd Avenue

Along with asphalt overlays, the county’s summer road preservation program includes slurry, cape and chip seal treatments. All preservation work is designed to protect the public’s investment in transportation infrastructure and extend the life of roads.
