Three dead in crash near Kalama

A crash on Interstate 5 Saturday left three dead.

According to information from the Washington State Patrol and Woodland police, an SUV headed northbound Interstate 5 struck a median and rolled over near Kalama.The driver was Daryl Tuimavave, 36.  

Distracted driving was determined as the cause of the crash. Tuimavave’s attention left the roadway while traffic slowed. Upon regaining attention, her actions to correct the situation led to the vehicle veering into the median where it rolled.



Tuimavave’s six-year-old daughter and parents, Oferia Nuusolia, 60, and Lokeni Nuusolia, 65, died on scene.  Tuimavave’s two other children, a five-year-old and a seven-year-old, were Life Flighted from the scene.

The family is from Washington though an exact place of residence was not given. Other than WSP, Woodland Police, Kalama Police and the Cowlitz County Sheriff’s Office along with multiple fire departments assisted on the call.
