The Marble Mountain Sno-Park on Mount St. Helens will feature a new warming shelter this winter, replacing the facility that burned to the ground in 2011.

The shelter opened with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Oct. 27. The U.S. Forest Service credited the efforts of the Mount St. Helens Trac Riders and Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler, R-Battle Ground, for helping move the project forward.

“I want to thank Congresswoman Herrera Beutler and her staff for their help and engagement in the Marble Mountain shelter project,” said Gifford Pinchot National Forest Supervisor Gina Owens.  “I also want to thank the Mount St. Helens Trac Riders, volunteers and other partners, who made it possible to have a great place for winter recreation again.”

The previous shelter saw as many as 12,000 visits each winter, the agency said.
