MARSHA EBERTS OF VANCOUVER turned 107 years old, Sept. 17 at the Cascade Inn Senior Living Community.
To find Anatone, Wash. on a traditional map is a challenge. Located in the remote reaches of unincorporated Asotin County, the sign at the entrance of town posted in 2003 breaks down the population – 45 citizens, 27 cats, 22 dogs, and 21 horses.
Marsha Eberts was born in Anatone on Sept 17, 1905. One hundred and seven years later, her birthday was celebrated at the Cascade Inn Senior Living Community, complete with a bluegrass band and other jovialities.
Being raised in a farming family with seven half brothers and sisters, their primary mode of transportation was horse and buggy. As a child, Marsha remembered travelling to Utah in a covered wagon with three or four other families. Her father played violin and growing up, Marsha developed a love of music, movies, sewing, painting and listening to “The Lone Ranger” on her first radio.
Marsha never went beyond an eighth grade education because at that time, girls either went to work or began their families instead of continuing their education. After she married, Marsha moved to Clark County and worked on the production line at the Camas paper mill before becoming a resident at the Cascade Inn in 2000.
Marsha never had any children and has been a vegeterian for most of her life. Any birthday wishes can be sent to Marsha through the Cascade Inn, 11613 SE 7th St., in Vancouver.
