A peek inside in the children’s section of the Battle Ground Community Library after its recent facelift.
On May 18, 10 years ago, the Battle Ground Community Library first opened. To celebrate the anniversary, the library will be presenting activities and demonstrations to commemorate the date and thank the community for a decade of support. The event will take place 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, May 18 at the library, 1207 SE 8th Way, Battle Ground.
In preparation for its 10 year anniversary, the library recently underwent a “refresh.”
Major points of the facelift include a mural in the teen area, new furniture in the children and teen areas and new carpet and reupholstered furniture throughout the library.
The Battle Ground Lions Club has also donated new acoustical panels, and with help from the Friends of Battle Ground Community Library, they have been installed to reduce noise levels. The library was closed during the work for most of last month but re-opened April 29.
The Battle Ground library currently has 14,000 square feet of space, but for 50 years it was housed in a 3,870-square-foot building. After two bonds failed to fund a new facility in 1999 and 2000, the Friends of the Library decided to fundraise $3 million.
“After many tries to pass a bond issue to build a larger library, the community of book-readers decided to do it on their own and after many fundraisers and begging we did just that. We are so thankful for the generous support of our community,” said Louise Tucker, member of the Friends of Battle Ground Community Library.
