Battle Ground Public Schools has its first of two new board members as the other directors selected Rob Henrickson to join them last week.

The school district announced Henrickson’s selection March 8 to fill the vacancy for BGPS’ District 2 seat left open by board member Ken Root who resigned last month. The announcement stated Henrickson was one of five candidates for the position who were interviewed and considered at a March 7 meeting.

Henrickson works for the Developmental Disabilities Administration in the Washington State Department of Social and Health Services and is himself a product of BGPS, graduating from Battle Ground High School in 1981. The announcement noted his wife works as a special education assistant at Tukes Valley Middle School and all five of their children have attended BGPS.

Henrickson was sworn into the position during the board’s March 11 meeting and his position will be up for election this November. The board is also currently looking for a replacement in District 4 as former member Mavis Nickels also resigned last month — they expect to interview candidates on or about March 18 for that position
