Battle Ground women plant pinwheel garden for Child Abuse Prevention Month

On March 28 nine members of GFWC-Battle Ground (General Federation of Women’s Clubs or Girl Friends Who Care) planted a “garden” of 108 shiny blue pinwheels.

“We hope to bring awareness to the problem too many children experience: child abuse,” project chairman Louise Tucker said.

According to Tucker, the west lawn of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church was chosen because it is a busy street and the home of a preschool. The church is located at 14208 NE 249th St., Battle Ground.

In the midst of the garden are four signs: “Help Kids,” “Grow Happily,” “Without Abuse,” followed by a sign with the GFWC, International logo.

Planting pinwheel gardens is a nation-wide campaign by Prevent Child Abuse America. Pinwheels were chosen because they symbolize a great childhood. The display will be up through April, Child Abuse Prevention Month.
