The Washington chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association is currently seeking volunteers to help facilitate monthly meetings for caregiver support in Woodland.

As part of their statewide outreach and support, the Alzheimer’s Association hosts Family Caregiver Support Groups that “provide a consistent and caring place for caregivers to learn, share, and gain emotional support from others,” according to a release from the association.

The release listed certain backgrounds that would be a good fit for volunteers, including individuals with experience as social workers, healthcare professionals such as nurses, educators, clergy, counselors as well as former family caregivers.

Volunteers are asked to commit to at least a year of volunteering in the role and will receive training, ongoing support, resources, and continuing education opportunities from the association, the release stated.

Groups like the one planned for Woodland provide emotional, educational and social support for family caregivers and friends of those with memory loss, according to the association. Those interested in learning more are directed to contact Linda Whiteside, the Washington chapter’s  director of Community Support, at 1-800-848-7097 or 206-529-3875 or by email at lwhitesi@alzwa.org.
