Brady Brick and Hunter Lindberg were stars on the Battle Ground football team, but have also been so in the classroom and in the community throughout high school. Last week the pair were recognized at an award ceremony by the National Football Foundation.

Within the Clark County Chapter of the foundation, both were recognized with a Scholar Athlete Award. At the end of the ceremony Brick was also selected by the foundation to be a recipient of a $2,500 scholarship.

Nominations to the event come from high school coaches in the county. To be chosen, as Brick was, the nominees had to fill out an application, send in an official transcript and have their coach complete a coach's comment page. The overall rating criteria was:

40 percent — Outstanding academic achievement.

40 percent — Outstanding football ability, performance and attitude.

20 percent — Outstanding in campus leadership, excellent citizenship and community involvement.

For both Brick and Lindberg the future is bright. Lindberg says he plans to major in mechanical engineering and pursue a career in the engineering field. He is still considering where he will go to college.

Brick will be attending Portland State next fall on a full-ride football scholarship. He plans to complete a degree in history and education. Eventually he says he would like to return back to the local Clark County area as a teacher and football coach. As for the $2,500 scholarship, Brick says he plans to save it in case schooling goes past what is covered by his football scholarship.

Brick and Lindberg expressed gratefulness to be a part of the ceremony.

“I just find it interesting all the things that the guys in our county do in the classroom and in our community that doesn’t get recognized always by the public,” said Brick.

“It was very exciting to be up on stage with so many other great athletes in our community,” added Lindberg. “It was an honor to be recognized in that way.”
